  • Today, Netflix unexpectedly released the season three trailer for Stranger Things, which promises that “one summer can change everything.”
  • The gang’s laidback and relatively normal summer goes 0 to 100 real quick thanks to teenage angst, demogorgons, and a whole new crop of adventures across Hawkins, from the mall to the emergency room.
  • The entire third season will be available on July 4, 2019.

The Fourth of July will ring in a sharp and terrifying turn in Hawkins, Indiana if the official season three trailer for Stranger Things is any indication.

Today, Netflix blessed us with an intense, nearly three-minute-long sneak peek of the hit sci-fi series, teasing Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her crew, gigantic demogorgons, and some adorable teenage hijinks.

The trailer opens up with the gang surprising Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) after he returns home from summer camp, as “Teenage Wasteland (Baba O’Riley)” by The Who blasts in the background.

As the core friend group–Eleven, Dustin, Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard)–walk across a grassy field, they plant something that looks like a barbed antenna in the ground. The following scenes show the kids hanging out in the pool, exploring the fancy new mall in town, dancing in their rooms, and riding their bikes. But, it seems like nothing can just completely normal and safe in good ol’ Hawkins.

The relaxed summer of fun quickly turns into a season filled with teenage angst. “We’re not kids anymore,” Finn declares as he peers over his shoulder and stares at a wooden home. The scenes seamlessly switches to him in his room looking at old photos while his voiceover continues: “I mean, what did you think? We were just going to sit in my basement all day? Play games for the rest of our lives?”

There are also scenes of a local “fun fair” that goes from family-friendly to creepy, real quick. A henchman with a gun is spotted in the house of mirrors, dozens of rats run across the floor, and the gang is seen running around the hospital, crawling in air vents, and getting in other shenanigans.

Somehow, Eleven finds herself blindfolded with an American flag bandana in front of a grocery store freezer filled with Eggo waffles (her signature snack). Meanwhile, Lucas gets brave and holds a slingshot like a weapon.

It wouldn’t be a show set in the ’80s if there wasn’t plenty of brightly-colored aerobic workouts, dad shoes, and scrunchies interjected between all of the outlandish adventures.

“One summer can change everything,” the trailer teases. And frankly, nothing looks like it will ever be the same, and I am not okay.

Netflix also shared new photos for fans to get a better look at what’s to come next season.

In one shot, Steve and a new character Robin are seen working at the concession stand at the local movie theatre while Dustin looks perplexed posted up next to them. In the second still, the gang looks exhausted and defeated outside of an emergency room entrance.

Chief Hopper (David Harbour) wears a green and pink shirt (and has a gash on his forehead) in another image. Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) looks so puzzled right in the fourth pic. Eleven and Max also show us that their friendship is so pure and precious, we must protect them at all costs.

Another sneak peek shows Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) as a lifeguard sharing a moment with Karen Wheeler (Cara Buono), AKA Mike’s Mom (!!!) by the pool.

Other stills show our boy Steve getting stabbed in the with a needle (Ouch!) and Eleven and Mike sharing a kiss (Aww). We also see Lucas’ sassy little sister Erica crawling through an air vent like she’s Bruce Willis in Die Hard.

Is it the Fourth of July yet? Because I am ready!
