Stay dated with our #BAZAARDigitalDiary hashtag for a delectable churn of our local millennial ladies. Watch this space as BAZAAR has the best of the new breed.
Ally Mukhriz is no average Jane Doe. Nonchalantly candid with a collection of tall tales of her family travels and personal anecdotes to share from across her life experiences. She is funny without realising that she actually is and speaks in quirky statements that leave you bemused (and confused.) With a total of three siblings and 17 cousins, #squadgoals has hit another level for this sassy lass. Let’s not forget that Ally also has a total of 60,000 followers on Instagram! BAZAAR gets personal on #DigitalDiary as we speak to the accidental social media siren and graduate of Business Management and Marketing from Royal Holloway, University of London on her fashion sense, family life and how it feels like to wake up everyday knowing 60,000 people are across her iPhone screen.
ON FASHION
Philosophy
On a casual day, I like to keep things simple in a pair of jeans and a top. I’m a fan of pairing white jeans with bright, exciting blouses. For gala dinners, I abide by a strong mantra of long hemlines and clean silhouettes. I last wore a white Elizabeth and James gown. However, as of late I’ve been a fan of wearing tailored wide leg trousers to functions. Fashion rules are meant to be broken every now and then.
Key Pieces
Jeans, jeans and more jeans! In all colours and prints! For shoes, I believe in a pair of Tods loafers and most definitely some cool sneakers. My favourite pair are a floral-motif Nike Air Max 1 shoes.
Favourite Designers
I have a true penchant for embellishments of every kind from beading to sequins and embroidery, Needle & Thread is up on my list. Its cute. I am also in love the simplicity of Diane Von Furstenberg’s clothes, easy pieces with a statement touch.
Accessories
Chunky, men’s watches are my absolute favourite! You will see me around wearing my dad’s old Daytona paired with my yellow gold Cartier Love Bracelet. I never leave home without those two!
Jewellery
I’m not one to experiment with jewellery so I always have the same pieces on. I don’t like to mix jewellery either so I have one hand that’s all silver and white gold and my other hand is all yellow gold. I only change them every few months
Escape
The island of Paros in Greece is so beautiful. As for quick city escape, whats not to love about Paris? I hear its always a good idea.
ON FAMILY
Favourite family memory?
The Mahathir side of the family go on vacations together every one or two years. We have been to Istanbul, Bodrum, Cannes, Phuket, Canada… But my favourite was only last year and it was just in Langkawi. We threw a small and sweet birthday party for my grandparents where the children and grandchildren performed. It ended with such loving speeches and a massive choir of bohemian rhapsody. I would never forget that trip. My grandmother speaks fondly about this holiday in her biography My Name is Hasmah.
Style Icon
Growing up, I didn’t like my mum’s sense of style at all. I never wore the stuff she bought me but as I grew older, I realised that my personal style was morphing into my mother’s. A natural rite of passage one could say. But I must admit that it now works in my favour as we share clothes, bags and everything in between. She is my style icon for sure.
ON SOCIAL MEDIA
(and all things millennial)
Social Media Star
I have the biggest girl crush on Nicole Richie! I am convinced she is my spirit animal. Her Instagram and Snapchats are an absolute must for everyone. On Snapchat, social media stars and model best friends, Catherine Paiz and Chantel Jeffries are the funniest. They document their whole lives and I went from following their workout routines to see Catherine give birth to her beautiful daughter. Everybody should check them out!
Who to follow on Instagram?
Blake Lively’s Instagram captions are always so on point. Of course, I can’t help stalking Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner on Insta too.
Favourite filter and editing hacks?
Aden is my favourite Instagram filter. However, I use VSCO for almost all my photos with the A6 filter as my go-to.
Last but not least, how does it feel to have 60,000 people watching you?
Overwhelming. You’d be surprised to know that with the amount of haters the cyber world festers, there is also an equal amount of kind and supportive people.
