Let’s go to K-town

Never failing to offer us swoon-worthy love stories, addictive plots, lovable characters and coupled with biting humour and intense contemporary social issues, K-dramas have been taking over the world by storm. And, this time it’s no different.
If you want to dip your toes in the realm of K-dramas, then look no further. The new ‘it’ girl in town is the thrilling show, Marry My Husband.
Based on Prime Videos, the series is about “Kang Ji-won, a terminally ill cancer patient, who is killed by her husband and best friend after she witnesses them having an affair. She wakes up 10 years before the incident and decides to seek revenge with the help of Yu Ji-hyuk, a director at the company where she works. Now, she must reclaim her fate and eliminate the trash from her life.”
BAZAAR recently chatted with the cast of “Marry My Husband” on their newest series on Prime, take a look at what went down.
Interview with “Marry My Husband” cast:
What gravitated you to stepping into the roles for this project?
Song Ha Yoon: The script was a lot of fun to read and when you see it on screen, it’s even more exciting.
Park Min Young: The script was my biggest reasoning — it was easy to binge-read in one sitting. I knew that the viewers could easily follow the storyline.
Lee Yi Kyung: This series was like a lottery to us. It was a story that can show different sides of us and with the immense support of our fans, it was easy to choose this project.
What are your thoughts on the series’ trope — returning to the past and altering their lives?
Na Inwoo: I find it fascinating. Everyone always has something to overcome and the way they go through it is enticing to see. And, of course, at some point, you will get curious to see if you can go to the past and fix it.
Park Min Young: Since it isn’t possible, I think it’s something you’re on the lookout for — the “if only”. It makes you even more imaginative and it definitely makes you want to experience it one way or another. This genre hasn’t been popular in a while, but judging by how it’s reaching viewers, I think everyone will love it. There will be a consistent demand for it now.
Lee Yi Kyung: It’s such an attractive trope. There are some things where humans don’t have complete freedom and I think the viewers will actively be put in a position to think about themselves and their life throughout the show.
Song Ha Yoon: This series visualises the possibility of going back in time and what it might feel like for people — in a way it kind of gives an effect of stress relief.
What was the chemistry like between the cast and how did it contribute to the on-screen chemistry?
Song Ha Yoon: We had a lot of fighting scenes where we said mean things to each other, but that didn’t stop us from embracing each other right after the director said “cut”. We had a bond off-screen and I just told myself to remember the love throughout the filming stages — that helped a lot in creating the series.
Lee Yi Kyung: Even when we were given specific scenes to act out, I wasn’t worried at all about this series. We genuinely cared for each other off set and that contributed to having good chemistry in all the scenes we had with each other.
Na Inwoo: I had so much fun all the time and that helped with creating the bond on and off screen.
How do you think “Marry My Husband” stands out from other shows? Why should we watch it?
Lee Yi Kying: Our show isn’t limited to one genre or just one trope. There are a lot of things we explore in the show, which makes it a novelty.
Park Min Young: I think what makes our show stand out is, of course, the characters — the dynamic and depth of each character are different from one another. From a handsome, perfect boyfriend to a beautiful, well-loved and unrelenting woman, there’s variety in the show. But, other than that, the show also starts with tons of elements; adultery, violence and exaggerated plots. And, we portrayed all of this in a way where it’s understandable and realistic.
Na Inwoo: Yeah, although the plot moves very quickly, it’s a smooth story that you’ll understand immediately.
