Inside the Volvo EX30 launch at KL Base

To celebrate its newest innovations, the Swedish carmaker unveiled its newest electric vehicle at BASE KL, Sungai Besi with a showcase and test-drive experience which were held from 25 till 29 September 2024.

A place for every car enthusiast, the EX30 launch was a chance for every individual to discover the new electric vehicle that boasts an incredible sustainable effort. To experience it all, we invited our friends of BAZAAR, Shweta Sekhon and Josh Kua as they gained firsthand experience in exploring the new vehicle and learning about its safety features.

The experiential showcase gave Shweta and Josh an opportunity to first-hand experience the enhanced safety features of the EX30 before they headed over to the iconic Sungai Besi Airport runway where they tested the EX30’s blistering acceleration in a 0 to 100km/h sprint and slalom, which they truly enjoyed.

Volvo’s commitment to sustainability

In fact, the EX30 is designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date—that’s less than 30 tonnes over 200,000km of driving. The interior is made from upcycled denim textiles, with upholstery crafted from 100% recycled polyester and Nordico with recycled PET content, while plastic materials are made with 30% recycled content.

With three variants – Volvo EX30 Plus, Volvo EX30 Ultra and Volvo Ultra Twin Performance – offered, it gives any driver an experience that will cater to their needs. When designing the car, every aspect of it, from the design to the choice of materials, was meticulously planned out to ensure that the vehicle was suitable for every journey and every moment in anyone’s life.

Design and Features of the Volvo EX30

You’ll have the option to choose between five chic colourways: Cloud Blue, Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Onyx Black, and Moss Yellow, which beautifully take inspiration from the lichen growing along the Swedish west coast.

Designed for individuals with an urban yet active lifestyle who prioritise style and sustainability, the EX30 boasts a chic Scandvanian minimalism outlook. The vehicle’s compact size makes navigating effortless with its low hood, wide headlights, and fenders.

The EX30 has a simple and minimalist interior with five different ambient light themes inspired by Swedish nature. Owners can match each lighting theme with a background soundscape for an immersive experience.

Additionally, the EX30 is Volvo’s first car to feature Harman Kardon Premium Sound in a single soundbar unit built into the dashboard. The soundbar, designed like a home audio system, delivers high-quality, driver-focused audio, ensuring a smooth drive for every adventure.

Technology and Safety Features

What truly sets the EX30 apart is its advanced technology. It features the fastest acceleration of any Volvo car to date, a new automatic parking feature, a contextual user interface with Google Built-in, upgraded semi-autonomous Pilot Assist functionality, and 360° environmental awareness from its multiple cameras, sensors, and radars. These unique features make the EX30 a standout choice in the electric SUV market.

Furthermore, the EX30 is equipped with cutting-edge safety features that are sure to impress. At the launch event, we hopped into the EX30 and uncovered its incredible door-opening alert system, which notifies you with visual and audio alarms when attempting to open the door and detects bikes or other road users from behind. Furthermore, automatic braking for front cross traffic was demonstrated to ensure its functionalities when turning at intersections and reversing at low speed.

While this can be extremely helpful to most, the vehicle also marks its first to include a new generation of Volvo’s Park Pilot Assist. From parallel to curved and diagonal fishbone parking spaces, you can guarantee that the EX30 will manoeuvre you to safety with its Park Pilot Assist.
