Introducing self-portrait Residency for Christopher Kane

Worlds collide.

The fashion realm is constantly driven by innovations, and self-portrait is proving that statement with its newest program: the self-portrait Residency.

Han Chong, the founder and creative director of self-portrait, has been at the forefront of fashion with his contemporary designs that ooze elegance. This time, Chong is on a mission to provide a collaborative space for creatives. Additionally, the initiative offers an astounding platform for artists to showcase their craft while promoting individuality and self-expression with a cooperative effort by providing access to the brand’s infrastructure, resources, and global network to amplify their work.

First look at self-portrait Residency with Christopher Kane

Photographed by Larissa Hofmann, the campaign takes an unexpected twist as it was shot at a live event hosted by Chong and Kane. You’ll notice that models Achol Ayor, Colin Jones, and Hannah Motler take centre stage surrounded by their special guests at this 100-pax dining event.

This collection infuses Kane’s artistry with nods to his debut Spring/Summer 2007 collection with archival touches. If you’ve been a fan of Kane’s work, then you’ll easily recognise his signature silhouettes and textures, including crystal chainmail, delicate ruffles, intricate lace panels, and bias-cut satin dresses. Adding to the allure is a range of knitwear with lace cut-outs and crystal-embellished mini dresses, all splashed in a vibrant colourway.

Han Chong, Founder and Creative Director of self-portrait, said in a statement, “I wanted to find a new way to reveal this collection, in keeping with the spirit and ethos of why we started our Residency programme – something modern, unexpected, and which celebrates togetherness. Recently, collaborations have felt transactional, so with self-portrait Residency, I wanted to create something that feels alive, connected, and reflective of the creative energy of today. Guests were able to explore and be part of the creative process, experiencing the collection in real-time, and will see the results come to life in this series of images. I hope these portraits capture our collective ambition for what we hope will be an inspiring ongoing new way to collaborate.”
