Clarins has long been committed to addressing arthritis through research and awareness, a cause deeply tied to its origins. The brand’s dedication stems from Jacques Courtin-Clarins, who founded the Association for Polyarthritis Research (now Fondation Arthritis) in 1989 to support his wife’s battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Today, this mission continues with initiatives like the MIRIAD research program, which investigates the role of diet and environmental factors in inflammation linked to rheumatic diseases.
This commitment was celebrated recently at The Flow Studio in Kuala Lumpur, where Clarins hosted an intimate reformer pilates session. The event highlighted the importance of gentle yet effective exercise for arthritis management. Reformer pilates, known for its low-impact movements, is particularly beneficial for improving flexibility, strengthening muscles, and reducing joint strain. As Dr. Tang, a guest speaker at the event, emphasised, exercises like pilates not only alleviate joint pain but also enhance overall well-being by improving balance and reducing stress—key elements for those managing arthritis.
Participants were introduced to Clarins’ iconic Tonic Body Treatment Oil, a product central to their fundraising efforts for Fondation Arthritis. Each purchase contributes to the MIRIAD program, which aims to identify dietary markers and develop therapeutic strategies to rebalance intestinal microflora, potentially easing inflammation.
The session also served as a platform to raise awareness about the prevalence of arthritis, a condition often misunderstood as affecting only the elderly. Dr. Tang noted that arthritis can impact individuals of all ages, including young adults and even children, underscoring the need for early prevention and effective management strategies.
Clarins’ ongoing efforts reflect a holistic approach to well-being, combining innovative skincare, philanthropy, and education to improve the lives of those affected by arthritis.
