Last month, I indulged my wanderlust at the mesmerising St. Regis Langkawi. It had been too long since I last set foot on this tropical paradise, and when the opportunity to explore its sun-drenched shores landed on my lap, I couldn’t resist diving headfirst into the adventure.
As the plane descended, the vibrant hues of the ocean came into view. The air is thick with anticipation, and you can almost taste the salt in the breeze. Arriving at the hotel was like entering into a humble abode; a sense of comfort washed over me. With an interior that boasted a European mansion with Middle Eastern touches, every corner was a sight to behold.
Arriving to The St. Regis Langkawi
I checked into the exquisite St. Regis Suite King, a sanctuary perfectly tailored for both solo escapades and intimate getaways. The moment I entered the suite, the atmosphere shifted—a wave of tranquillity washed over me. With its enchanting outdoor space, it’s destined for those seeking solace amidst breathtaking ocean views. As I settled in, I indulged in the simple pleasure of reading my book while sipping on my iced tea. Thanks to the butler’s service, I didn’t have to lift a finger. I could order my chilled beverages and envelope into a sweet escape.
While the outdoor space was already captivating enough, the suite includes a living/sitting area, a double vanity area (just so you don’t have to fight over getting ready with your partner), and a separate bathtub and shower area.
The King bed was like floating on a cloud–layers of plush bedding that transported you to a state of pure bliss. As much as I wanted to stay in, it was finally time to explore.
As I made my way to the vibrant beach, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore created a soothing melody in the background. At that moment, I realised that all I needed was to tune out the outside world and unwind by the beach with a good book. If you left your sunscreen in your room, don’t worry; the hotel offers a wide range of SPF options to suit your needs—SPF 15, SPF 30, and SPF 50. And if you happen to get a sunburn, aloe vera is also available. Trust The St. Regis Langkawi to think ahead.
What’s good to eat?
Begin your day at L’Orangerie, where a symphony of local and international flavours awaits. A must-try? The Lobster Omelette is elegantly paired with creamy bisque, and the Kaya Toast is topped with soft-boiled eggs. Go ahead and explore the breakfast spread, which includes fresh granolas, breakfast smoothies, pastries, Malaysian breakfast staples and more.
As the day unfolds, make your way to Pantai Grill for an idyllic beachside dining experience. Here, freshly caught seafood and expertly grilled delicacies take centre stage. Indulge in their succulent steaks, vibrant fish tacos, and bountiful seafood platters. As you savour each bite, let the cool ocean breeze wash over you and take in a stunning sunset that perfectly complements your delectable dinner.
Championing local with a Four Hands Dinner at Kayuputi
My first stop on the list was Kayuputi–the hotel’s stunning Pan-Asian restaurant. Designed by world-renowned architect Bill Bensley, stepping into the restaurant gave us the feel of a beautiful beach retreat. With its sophisticated white hues, teak columns and ocean-inspired decorations, I knew visiting Kayuputi was going to leave a lasting impression.
That weekend, I got to indulge in their exquisite Farm-to-Table Four Hands Dinner event, featuring the hotel’s Executive Chef along with The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s Executive Chef from The Brasserie–Chef Unaver V. Unabia and Chef Norazizi Bin Taslim.
Blending the finest local produce and sustainable practices, the evening was fuelled with full-bodied flavours and aromatic dishes. Every dish was like a work of art–visually pleasing to the eyes and a kick for the senses with its appetising flavours.
What’s on the menu
Our evening kicked off with an amuse-bouche featuring Pearls & Caviar using Tanjung Malim Caviar sourced from a sustainable farm in the foothills of the Titiwangsa Mountains and the freshest oysters to complement. Next up was the Foie Gras Mousse. If you’re familiar with the rich and creamy flavours of Foie Gras, then you’re going to love this luxurious bite that’s glazed with kedondong, orange jicama and crispy potato. Next up was the savoury Cameron Asparagus Velouté. Paying tribute to the island’s water and local seafood, this heartwarming dish combines the best of both worlds–fresh and flavourful.
As we waited for our mains to arrive, a zesty and refreshing portion of raspberry sorbet freshened up my palate. For the main event, I devoured the Langkawi Seafood Market, which consists of Red Mullet from the island’s seafood market. Next up was the Organic Guineafowl, which took me by surprise with its robust flavours topped with baby carrot, barley ragout, stuffed pisang salai ricotta and morel jus.
If you thought our evening was over, think again. The masterminds behind the exquisite menu presented the Sanchoku Wagyu Beef, served with beef wellington and a Boom Grow Salad, to showcase the hotel’s hydroponic farming methods. While that dish left a memorable taste on my palate, the Truly Malaysia Cheese Platter by D’ Artisan Cheese was everything and more. Now, if you are a cheese fanatic like I am, this was an excellent way to seal the deal. My top picks? The Chili Geronong Gouda and Five Spice.
For a sweet finish to our evening, we indulged in the Single Origin Kelantan Chocolate Cremeux. Fulfilling with every bite, you can taste the richness of the creamy chocolate with yoghurt cheese, Compressed Malibu Pineapple and Truffle.
Verdict
My experience at Kayuputi brings an interesting weave of discovery through every dish. Locally sourced and sustainable, each dish fuses our rich local flavours with Western touches that put the icing on the cake.
Furthermore, checking into The St. Regis Langkawi was an enchanting experience. From the lavish accommodations to the exquisite dining experiences, every moment was a celebration of luxury and comfort. Whether lounging on the serene beaches, savouring memorable meals, or connecting with the vibrant local culture, I departed the island with treasured memories and a rejuvenated spirit. This tropical paradise truly embodies a sweet escape, and I can’t wait to return for more adventures in this magnificent haven.
