With Rouge Dior On Stage, Dior introduces a new era of shine lipstick—and actress Jenna Ortega reflects on authenticity, bold choices, and the beauty of rewriting the rules.
Dior Beauty welcomes a new chapter in its beauty legacy with Rouge Dior On Stage, a shine lipstick created under the direction of Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior Makeup. With its modern silhouette, advanced formula, and versatile palette, it captures the spirit of bold self-expression. The campaign is fronted by actress Jenna Ortega, whose own career reflects the same willingness to challenge convention.
Speaking about her journey in Hollywood, Ortega admits that perseverance has been essential. “There wasn’t always a place for me,” she recalls. Casting once relied heavily on ethnicity, often limiting opportunities, but rather than stepping back, she worked harder to prove her value. “It didn’t work every time, but sometimes it did,” she says, noting that her determination and ambition never wavered. That resilience mirrors the philosophy behind Rouge Dior On Stage: rewriting the rules rather than following them.
The lipstick itself is a product of Dior’s double-phase technology, a formulation that unites saturated colour with a blend of oils to achieve both comfort and long-lasting shine. It hydrates lips for 24 hours, resists fading, and glides on easily with a custom-designed bullet that combines precision with ease.
Ortega, who describes herself as naturally introverted, admits that the sudden attention following Wednesday was overwhelming at first. Her advice for those who feel the same in environments that favour extroversion is simple: “If you don’t have anything to say, don’t say it. You don’t have to perform for anybody.” For her, speaking only when it feels natural prevents regret and helps her remain true to herself. “Maybe it’s nice to have a quieter night, and I promise no one really minds,” she adds.
Authenticity also guides her choice of roles and her approach to this campaign. “As a person, I feel less malleable and less shaken by what’s going on around me. I’d much rather be myself than fall into some sort of bandwagon mentality. I never want to sacrifice my humanity or authenticity.”
When it comes to favourite shades, Ortega reaches instinctively for Redwood Star, a brown-red that brings ease and confidence. “When I put this shade on, that’s all I need to do. The simplicity of it, the ease of it, and the confidence it gives me is refreshing.” Alongside Redwood Star, Dior highlights Iconic Rose, a refined nude beige. Ortega likens the two colours to the evolution of a character in one of her favourite films, The Earrings of Madame de…: the glamorous phase embodied by Redwood Star, and the softer, more vulnerable side expressed through Iconic Rose.
Her beauty routine remains intuitive. For her signature smoky eye, she simply runs eyeliner along the waterline and smudges it with her finger. “When you do it carelessly, it comes off more casual. I like it to look like you almost slept in it.” Lipstick, too, is applied by instinct: “You just feel it out. Make sure your lips are hydrated, and with Dior’s formula, it’s hard to go wrong.”
For Ortega, make-up functions as a form of self-expression but also as a way of preparing for public moments. At red-carpet events, she views lipstick as a finishing touch that can influence both her look and her confidence. “Sometimes you have to create a character for yourself, and lipstick is crucial for that.”
Her connection with Dior is longstanding, dating back to childhood visits to El Paseo in the Coachella Valley. She remembers being struck by the store’s presence, even without stepping inside. Today, she associates the House with elegance, strength, and assurance. “Dior gives you the boost and confidence to feel sure of yourself,” she reflects.
With ten carefully considered shades designed to complement every complexion, Rouge Dior On Stage introduces a new balance of performance and style. Much like Ortega herself, it embodies confidence, authenticity, and individuality—qualities that stand out in any spotlight.
