A global brand ambassador for the brand since 2021, actress Lily Collins is known for her off-camera style as much as her roles on Love, Rosie, To The Bone, and hit Netflix series, Emily in Paris. One can see how Collins’s wardrobe reflects her British-American heritage as well as the Scandinavian inspiration. She spends a lot of time in Copenhagen, Denmark with her film director husband Charlie McDowell, where they live in the upscale, trendy neighbourhood of Østerbro. Cartier taps into this unique taste and style sensibility by inviting Collins to create her own version of the C de Cartier bag, in collaboration with creative director of Cartier’s leather goods collection, Marlin Yuson.

At Cartier’s creative studio in Paris, the two exchange their different perspectives, opening on a dialogue on how Cartier’s signatures can help personality and individual style shine through. “A bag shows how you want to finish your look,” asserts Collins.

What are the results of this conversation? The first is a bespoke creation based on the east-west silhouette from the C de Cartier collection, with a tonal brown-on-brown embroidered infinite double C motif and Collins’s initials hot-stamped in gold. On the body, the emblematic double C logo, a Cartier symbol since 1921, is embroidered all over using high-performance thread traditionally reserved for saddlery. Another signature C de Cartier clasp is created with the help of the jewellery ateliers. It is adorned with gadroons, a geometric motif found on Cartier’s beloved goods, including its latest designs of the LOVE Bracelets.

“When I have a structured bag like this, it encourages me to prioritise only what I need in it and all of the sudden, you feel lighter. This is the perfect shape,” comments Collins.

She adds: “I appreciate [the bag’s gender-fluidity] because there’s a stamp of identity but there’s also a way for each person who wears it to make it their own.”
