In Matthieu Blazy’s debut couture show, celebrities were found perched under giant mushrooms.

Creative director Matthieu Blazy’s first haute couture collection for Chanel was inspired by the haiku: “Bird on a mushroom / I saw the beauty at once / Then gone, flown away.” His creative vision permeated through the entire collection, including its inventive staging at the Grand Palais. The venue was transformed into a surreal, powder pink fantasy with giant mushrooms, towering trees with gently cascading pink leaves, as well as textured pink seats arranged in a whimsical spiral throughout the space.

Those seats, as expected, were filled with only the biggest stars, from long time fans of the brand, such as Dua Lipa and Kim Go Eun, to its latest crop of ambassadors, A$AP Rocky, Nicole Kidman, and Gracie Abrams. They were just as eager as the rest of us to witness the full force of Blazy’s creativity during his couture show, especially after he exhibited his Métiers d’art collection on an abandoned subway platform in New York City.
