Inside Dior’s New Addict Glass Lipstick with Jisoo and Peter Philips in Seoul

Jisoo’s Latest Favourite

Stepping into the presidential suite and being greeted by the vast, albeit gloomy, views of the Seoul skyline, one thing was for sure shining—and it was the newest Dior Addict Glass Lipstick cases, carrying enough shine to make you forget the unpredictable spring weather entirely. We all took our seats in the grand living room as Make You Mine by Madison Beer—the soundtrack for the latest Addict Glass Lipstick campaign—played softly on repeat. First came in Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup, with a suave manner about him that matched the quiet confidence of the product he was there to introduce.

Jisoo and Peter Philips introduce the new Dior Addict Glass Lipstick, from Rose Charm to the new era of glossy, high-shine lips.

And what a product it is. The Dior Addict Glass Lipstick is the latest chapter in the Addict story, and it is described as a true lip gloss stick, bridging the gap between a gloss and a lipstick in a way that, on paper, sounds like it should not work quite as well as it does. The formula is over 90% oil-based, enriched with hyaluronic acid spheres for 48-hour hydration and cranberry oil to help strengthen the lip’s skin barrier over 24 hours.

On contact with the warmth of the lips, the solid stick melts to deliver a mirror-effect shine without any stickiness, oiliness, or smudging. It comes in 16 shades across two finishes—glass and sparkle—and arrives in a completely reinvented silver case topped with the iconic Addict Pearl, now adorned with a mirror effect and a subtle holographic oblique logo for the first time.

Soon after, Dior global ambassador Jisoo joined us, equally warm, bubbly and at ease, and we got into it.

For Philips, this launch speaks directly to how lip trends have been shifting. He explained that in recent years, the focus on glow and radiance has only grown stronger, not just because it looks good, but because formulas are now more caring. That thinking led directly into the idea of creating a “new glow” specifically for the lips. Rather than revisiting a traditional gloss, he described the finish as something more balanced. It has the shine people want, but with a level of polish that feels more refine. He added, almost as a side note, that “matt textures will inevitably return, but for now, glow is very much leading the conversation.”

That balance is also what made the formula such a challenge to create. Philips shared that the real difficulty was combining something that behaves like a liquid gloss with the stability of a solid lipstick. The high oil content is what gives the shine, but it needed to be supported by just enough structure to hold everything together. The packaging became part of that solution too, with an airtight design that keeps the formula stable. On the lips, the stick softens instantly, creating a thin, even layer of shine without feeling heavy or slipping around, which is especially important in warmer, more humid climates.

When asked to define what makes this “new glow” different, Philips broke it down quite simply. “Glow can come from different places, whether it is shimmer, texture or oil. What makes this formula stand out is that it is a pigmented glow.” The shine sits cleanly over the colour, almost like a clear layer, rather than mixing into it. That is what gives it that glass-like clarity, something that feels more modern and less overtly glossy.

For Jisoo, the appeal of the product comes down to how easy it is to wear. Speaking about shade 306 Rose Charm, she shared that she has always gravitated towards rosy tones, so it immediately felt like a natural fit. What she likes most is how it enhances rather than changes your overall look. It is subtle enough for everyday wear, but can still work for more dressed up moments, which ties back to how the product is designed to be flexible across different occasions and settings.

She expanded on this idea further when asked to imagine the lipstick on one of her characters, Seo Mi-rae in Boyfriend on Demand. Rather than choosing something bold, she returned to the same instinct. “As we all know, there’s a wide range of different shades… from natural shades to glamorous and sophisticated shades,” she said. “However, I would say that Rose Charm is the right colour for the character.” For her, it comes down to how the shade supports the story. “It’s a natural shade… and also… it is a character that creates empathy for people living daily lives,” she explained. “So in that sense, we do not need a flamboyant shade, but instead a natural shade that could give you vitality or radiance to your daily lives.”

That idea of ease came up again when Philips talked through application. His advice was straightforward. There is no need to overapply or use tools. A single swipe directly from the bullet is enough to deliver both colour and shine. Because the texture is so soft, he also noted that it is better not to wind the product up too far. It is designed to glide on and set in place without needing much effort, reinforcing the idea that make-up should feel simple to use.

The same thinking applies to comfort. While Philips was quick to credit the laboratories for the technical side, the intention was always to create something that feels as good as it looks. Despite the high oil content, the formula does not feel greasy or sticky, and it wears as a light, flexible layer on the lips. It is also designed not to smudge easily, which again makes it more practical for daily wear.

Interestingly, one of the things he is most proud of is something people might not immediately notice. Because the product is so easy to use, it can almost feel obvious, but that simplicity is the result of a lot of development behind the scenes. The goal was to create something that fits seamlessly into a routine without requiring too much thought, which, in his view, is when a product really works.

The design of the lipstick itself also ties closely back to Dior’s wider fashion identity. Philips explained that there has been ongoing collaboration with the fashion teams, reflecting a “One Dior” approach. The cases take inspiration from house signatures, including the bow motif and the Oblique pattern, and are designed to be refillable and customisable. Alongside the classic silver case, new variations like Pink Bow, Denim Oblique and Flowery Cannage add a more personal element, allowing you to mix and match and make it your own.

On a more practical note, performance in humid climates was also addressed. Philips pointed out that in heat and humidity, heavier make-up tends to break down more quickly. With this formula, because it is so lightweight, you only need a small amount to get the full effect. That makes it more comfortable to wear and less likely to feel overwhelming on the skin.

The distinction between the two finishes also plays into how and when you might wear it. The mirror finish offers a cleaner, more natural shine that works well during the day, while the sparkly finish becomes more noticeable under direct light, making it better suited to evening or events.

Towards the end of the conversation, the focus shifted slightly to Jisoo herself. Reflecting on recently receiving the Rising Star Award at the Cannes International Series Festival, she shared that it came as a genuine surprise, especially as the first Asian recipient. She described it as a motivating moment, something that encourages her to keep pushing forward in her acting career.

When speaking about acting more generally, she explained that what she enjoys most is the opportunity to step into different lives and perspectives. “When I play those characters, it feels like I’m given a new life,” she said. “And that new life becomes an inspiration for my real life.” She added that hearing audiences connect with her roles is what gives her energy to keep going.

Looking ahead, she kept things simple but heartfelt. “I am working really hard on our album with my members,” she shared, before adding that she hopes for “more chances to meet fans” in the year ahead. It is a reminder that even as her acting career continues to grow, music and that connection with her audience remain at the centre of everything she does.
