Behind the Seams: Prada’s Spring/Summer 2026 Collection

Prada’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection masterfully transforms the art of skirts into a work of art, infused with textures and colours.

Every stitch, pleat and texture embodies a narrative that’s rooted in tradition, experimentation and relentless passion. For Prada, the Spring/Summer 2026 collection redefines the skill and artistry of one signature silhouette: skirts.

Gone are the days of familiarity. Prada evolves the conventional style with a design that’s intricate yet defined with a sense of movement. Each piece is a harmonious blend of techniques, volumes and materials, allowing for a fluid interplay of romanticism.

Inside the process behind the distinctive Prada skirts from SS26:

At the heart of this collection lies a captivating approach to patchwork. These skirts are composed of multiple layers, with each retaining its individual tactile and identity while functioning seamlessly when worn by every fashion maven. The art of combining diaphanous taffetas, pristine duchesses and soft crepe de Chine calls for a stunning dialogue of textures, as pleats, flounces and ruffles take centre stage. When it comes to colours, Prada does not shy away from them. Beautiful pastels dance alongside vibrant primary tones against the timelessness of black.

THE MAGIC OF SAVOIR-FAIRE

As we take a closer peek into Look 8, the journey behind its beauty begins with draping on the mannequin. With a goal to explore contrasting volumes, the silhouette undergoes meticulous pattern cutting.

The magic continues on the front’s duchesse panel, beautifully structured with flat pleats for a sleeker, almost graphic surface. Formed individually and anchored to the waistband, the pleats are what give the drape its power. Furthermore, the embroidered crepe panel is then hand-applied with delicate crystals, acting as a radiant canvas that captures light with every movement.

As for the back, it unfolds in a grand three-tier design with taffeta at its core. The innermost layer forms a structural base with seven gathered ruffles, which are embroidered and hand-applied over voluminous power.

The finishing touch is a lesson in precision—ensuring that the garment’s asymmetries and drapes are honoured. Flat pressing imparts a structural memory, while hand ironing imparts softness at the hips. Total crafting time? 27 hours of dedicated artistry.

Turning our attention to Look 37, the narrative of lightness and structure unfolds with grace. Crafted from a toile and refined through on-mannequin designs, the skirt supports four unique fabrics. The front features dual overlapping panels, where light and semi-transparent lace bring depth into the design, juxtaposed with taffeta’s structure.

Architectural pleats and hand-anchored points define the flare at the hem, while two rows of gathered ruffles bring the piece to life. The back—a softer crepe de Chine—is adorned with gathers and tucks to add depth and create a sense of flow. Then, an innovative pleated popline panel at the hip showcases a unique twist. Each pleat is topstitched by hand, then ironed and pressed to achieve an artful crinkle. Completing the overall look is a grosgrain belt—a graceful nod to structure amidst the fluidity.
