Last week in Singapore, eight fashion designers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia came head to head at the BAZAAR New Gen finals. It was a close and tight competition, but it was William Utama from Indonesia who was crowned champion and awarded a scholarship to pursue a Masters degree at the Instituto Marangoni in London.
A man with a plan, he was the only finalist who had “a proper business plan that outlined the cost of his materials and the eventual price sheet for retail,” said Kenneth Goh, Editor-in-Chief of BAZAAR Singapore and Creative Director of BAZAAR Malaysia. Together with his bold use of materials and fresh street-luxe approach, William became the judges’ obvious choice for the competition.
