Self-tanning came a long way this decade. Granted, streaks still happen, but gone are the days of Oompa-Loompa impersonations (unless, of course, you’re talking Trump), and ‘wet dog’ smells that linger on bed sheets. At-home formulas make faking it fool proof, while professional treatments can look infallible, like you’ve been on a health-giving detox as opposed to baking your body in Mallorca. And, praise be: this comes at a time when our collective awareness of what it means to be ‘sun safe’ is higher than it’s ever been (although it doesn’t help that sunbeds are still legal in the UK), so we’re all happier to go faux – if, of course, we choose to tan at all.
