BAZAAR Fragrance Awards 2017: Men’s Fragrance of the Year

Cartier L’Envol de Cartier Eau de Parfum, RM495 (100ml)

Notes: “L’Envol” literally translates to “the flight”, where this flacon of amber liquid is inspired by both the mythical Olympian ambrosia and aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. Another composition of perfumer Mathilde Laurent, this scent is unmistakably masculine and sets the heart ablaze with ambition. The top note opens with the refreshing and slightly powdery scent of iris, and trickles down to a delicious honey scent with a shot of patchouli.

Did You Know? Laurent, who is responsible for creating Cartier’s scents, never wears perfume to work as it interferes with her objectivity. On top of these mainstream fragrances, she also customises personal scents at the Cartier flagship in Paris.

Why BAZAAR Loves It: Unlike most perfume bottles, this one is designed to be detachable, revealing a capsule contained within the glass dome. The guilloché motif on the stopper finds its roots in the architectural designs of the ancient Near East, silently enchanting with its intricate pattern.
