Mille Fleurs

The subtle, intoxicating  scent of orchids blankets the cool conservatory that basks in the warm glow of an early evening sun, as the elegant few, in hushed tones, sip on tea and enjoy the sumptuous treats that Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur has to offer at their legendary ‘Afternoon Tea’ session. Picture Alice, falling back through the rabbit hole 10 years after her first adventure, into a more grown-up, sophisticated Mad Hatter’s tea party; playful orchids of various hues of delicate yellows, blushing orange-y pinks, angelic whites and more, line all four angles of the glass atrium, giving the conservatory an otherworldly sort of mood; to a three tiered tray of enchanting sweet bites  that perfectly complements the charming table setting.  This wonderland that is the Orchid Conservatory is home to joyous tea sessions filled with sweet & savoury delights.  On the three tier tray served at the afternoon tea are: warm, freshly baked plain and raisin scones, deliciously sinful chocolate cup cakes, mixed berries baklava, madeleines, hazelnut & passion fruit cream, raspberry cookies cream puff, an assortment of delectable sandwiches from the classic pairing of egg and cucumber, pineapple acar with roasted chicken to smoked salmon, tuna and everybody’s favourite peanut butter with banana & strawberry jelly, just the way the king of rock n’ roll liked it.  To shake things up a little, the chef sends out a hotbox along with the three tiers of heavenly treats. The items served up in the hotbox are a variety of savoury treats that change from day to day. It’s the chef’s little surprise, which could be small triangles of pineapple and chicken pizzas, to traditional local delights such as prawn puffs. Be it a girls’ day out or a father’s day treat, an afternoon at the Majestic Hotel’s Orchid Conservatory is always a marvelous idea. www.majestickl.com
