Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli introduces the Bolero bag.
When Pierpaolo Piccioli took over the reins at Balenciaga, the anticipation for his debut Spring/Summer 2026 collection was at an all-time high. Known for his mastery of colour and romanticism, the designer’s path into the Maison evokes a sense of love and connection. For his debut, the designer gave nods to those who have taken charge of the Maison. From Cristóbal Balenciaga’s billowy, cocoon silhouettes to Demna’s all-black looks, it was a sight to behold. As timeless yet effortless pieces marched down the runway, Piccioli infused his dominance with ball gowns, colour-blocking and button-down shirts.
Everything to know about the Balenciaga Bolero bag:
In the accessories department, our gaze caught the arrival of the Bolero—Piccioli’s first designed bag for the Maison. Inspired by the House’s leathercraft heritage and architectural volumes, the Bolero was a tribute to the founder’s first Paris Couture presentation and to the iconic bolero jacket, which has long symbolised elegance. As Piccioli takes a fresh spin on the silhouette by launching a wide-set bowling carry-all, this piece bridges Balenciaga’s storied past with contemporary design.
The Bolero bag captivates with its innovative design—a zipper that traces the bag’s contours, splitting open like an oyster, evoking curiosity and admiration for its craftsmanship. At the base, a cleverly designed zipped exterior compartment tilts open, allowing seamless access. The bag’s ergonomic shape offers versatility for the modern individual. Thanks to its practicality, the detachable cross-body strap lets you carry it under the arm, hooked over the elbow, or across the body.
A closer look at the Balenciaga Bolero:
Each handle includes the B-shaped metal emblems that face forward and backwards—an innovative nod to Piccioli’s entry to the Maison. Available in both medium and mini sizes, the Balenciaga Bolero Bag is offered in an exquisite palette of black, curry, rose quartz and cream smooth calfskin, all lined with plush nappa lambskin and finished with aged gold hardware.
Destined to be a day-to-night companion, the Bolero was also seen on actresses Sarah Catherine Hook, Ma Sichun and Yang Chaoyue.
