On the runway at Longchamp Spring/Summer ’20 in New York, a miniaturised Le Pliage bag stood out. What would one carry in such a micro accessory? “A credit card,” said creative director Sophie Delafontaine. “Because you are always an independent woman, and your lipstick, because you are very feminine. What else do you need?” The French designer had a point, alluding to the emancipated woman of the 21st century. Here, LBD parkas and Françoise Hardy-esque boiler suits breathed new life into the maison’s free-spirited equestrienne, while rugged sock boots and boxing shoes revealed the house’s urban flair that had evidently kept with the times.
