Earlier this year, Olivia Palermo announced her first fashion collaboration: a four-part collection with Nordstrom’s in-house brand, Chelsea28. With a street style-worthy spring and summer collection already under her belt, Palermo’s third installment, a ’70s-inspired fall collection, is making its debut in stores next week. The 23-piece line includes the style star’s usual staples like leather overalls and ruffled dresses along with some surprises like a pair of suspenders that Palermo has already declared as her favourite. We got the scoop from Palermo herself on what inspired the new collection along with what she’s looking forward to wearing this fall. Click through for your first look at the collection.
Harper’s BAZAAR: What was the inspiration behind the fall collection?
It was a bit of a mix. We wanted to continue to play with styles that layer or mix and match easily according to your personal taste. We definitely continued with the 70’s feel of the spring collection but added fall colours and elements like tie necklines that you can play with in different ways to have a retro or modern feel. Texture was also key. We loved pairing light, romantic elements like ruffles and lace with edgy leather or menswear-inspired tailored pieces. Materials like chiffon have a lot of movement and add an extra-pretty element to balance the menswear styles.
Harper’s BAZAAR: What fall trends are you most excited to wear?
I’m excited for rich tones like burgundy. I also love using a neutral colour palette when incorporating different textures such as suede.
Harper’s BAZAAR: If someone were to buy only one piece from the collection for this fall, which one should it be?
I love a tailored menswear look. This collection has many pieces that can be worn from day to night, but I personally love the navy suspenders the most. I also really like the flannel cropped trouser and matching blazer. There is a tone of the burgundy in the fabric that I love, so I would add accessories to accent that colour
