Gucci has announced that it will donate €2 million in support of two crowdfunding campaigns to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

One campaign will help locally, in support of the Italian Civil Protection Department in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo, and the other will help on a more global scale, supporting the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund with the World Health Organisation.

The fashion house is calling on its friends and followers to stand with the brand and raise money to alleviate the current crisis, by helping health services with equipment and supporting scientific research into vaccines and treatments.

Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director, said in a statement: “By supporting each other and helping those who are most vulnerable among us, we will be able to overcome this crisis: united, more than ever before.”

Gucci’s initiative follows donations from its parent company, Kering, in China, Italy and France. The conglomerate has also produced over 1 million masks and gowns for healthcare workers.

Other fashion brands are also doing their bit to help the cause, with The Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation donating $10 million to support the workers and communities dealing with the pandemic.
