Fashion Week Darling
“Painting was a form of rebellion for me,” she explains. “It was the one thing nobody could tell me how to do.” That creative freedom eventually led her to the front rows of Paris fashion week—an escape hatch into a world that sparked joy.
“People laughed when I started going to fashion week,” she remembers. “There were some actresses there who were asking things like, ‘What is she doing here?’ But fashion week was my Neverland. I felt that this was a space where I could just be. There were no lines to memorise, no costumes. It was just me and the clothes that I loved.”

In spite of her status as a style savant known across the world, what’s remarkable is not the high jewellery or couture gowns—although there are plenty as seen on her Instagram feed. Instead, it’s how she’s managed to make those things feel personal, like they’ve grown with her.
“It’s never been about the aesthetic,” she says. “Fashion, for me, has always been about resistance. It’s about being able to say: I don’t have to fit your mould. I can wear diamonds one day, and keep it casual in a tee and faded jeans the next. And that’s okay.”

Still, the glitter comes with its shadows, and it’s something that she openly admits. “Fashion week can be lonely,” she lets on. “People get intimidated by how I dress, so I don’t think I have that many friends there.” She laughs, but there’s a pang in her voice. “I’ve always felt a little alone. Even as a kid. I used to eat lunch in the school bathroom because I was too ashamed to sit alone.”
