How to Wear The Mum Mule

With kitten heels and flip flops enjoying a revival the past few seasons, it was only a matter of time before mumsy mules became the shoe du jour. The trend –which is all about a thin strap (or two) and a heel that is smaller than two inches – has been sweeping our Instagram feeds.

The style is a versatile purchase and will work with most ensembles, whether you are dressing up jeans and a T-shirt or complimenting other retro pieces.

Here are five of our favourite ways to style your mum mules, courtesy of Instagram.

1. Embrace their retro feel

Pernille Teisbaek’s excellent styling makes a case for pairing your mum mules with some fellow retro pieces. The blogger teamed her colourful metallic Edited Official mules with cycling shorts and a power blazer, giving them very ’80s finish.

2. Invest in a pair with square toes

Tap into two trends at once and nab a pair of mum mules with a square toe (undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion hits on Instagram this summer). The small detail gives a modern spin to the shoe and makes them perfect for partying.

3. Opt for bold colours

If you really want to make a statement with the trend, choose bright, bold primary colours a la Pandora Sykes – and wear them on your holidays and beyond.

4. Alternatively, keep it simple

However, if you want to go for something a little more toned down, then opt for timeless black hues and wear them with your all-white ensembles for an even sharper finish.

5. Contrast with oversized tailoring

Contrast the feminine with the masculine by teaming your dainty sandals with some oversized summer tailoring.
