Lacoste’s SS25 Collection Celebrates Athletic Heritage with a Liberated Twist

An ode to heritage.

As hints of summer creep in, Lacoste unveiled its SS25 collection that pays tribute to the Maison’s athletic heritage with a collection brimming with modern French elegance and liberation. This includes incorporating silhouettes that inject colours with a fluid and nonchalant essence. While it majorly takes inspiration from the founder René Lacoste and the 1920s era, the mood resonates with this season’s collection for any seaside getaway.

Set against the backdrop of a 1920s building, embraced by lush greenery and sea views, the collection comes to life in an atmosphere buzzing with a warm, natural glow. A monumental net sculpture, a creation of British artist Susie MacMurray, stands as a tribute to the enduring legacy of sport, anchoring this collection into a rich narrative.

Inside Lacoste’s SS25 Collection:

A symphony between formal and casual, the collection embraces silhouettes from the courtside to the shoreline, where sport and leisure form a weave of elegance. Imagine pairing a pleated sundress with a chic weekend racquet tote or layering the ensemble over with a sharp blazer–the signature of Lacoste’s founder–with performance shorts for a quintessentially modern look. Creative Director Pelagia Kolotouros continues to embrace the history of the brand by unveiling neo-tennis looks on the runway. You’ll find the iconic polo shirt, a signature to the brand, elevated as tees, evening dresses and tennis skirts.

While the collection ventures into new territories, it remains rooted in Lacoste’s tennis heritage. Sprinkled with archival references such as tennis balls, rackets, and prints—by René Lacoste’s close friend, artist Robert George, who originally designed the crocodile logo–the collection pays homage to its sporting roots. The romantic fluidity of pleats, a nod to tennis champion Suzanne Lenglen, also appears throughout the collection, which also played a major role in the birth of the Lenglen bag.

A closer look at the collection:

In the women’s department, silhouettes are delightfully feminine, boasting daring cut-outs and delicate lingerie-inspired details that reveal just a hint of allure. Meanwhile, men’s offerings reinvigorate sportswear with dapper touches, showcasing tailored blazers crafted with a soft shoulders. While sharp yet fluid tailoring takes control of this season’s narrative, we’re not ignoring the holiday basics. Daring takes on the brand’s ‘20s and ‘30s romper bathing suits appeared on the runway, while beachwear and lingerie demonstrate that showing a little skin is in this season. In the meantime, athletic V-neck décolletés add an irresistible twist to dresses and polo shirts alike.

What truly sets this collection apart is Kolotouros’s innovative approach to design. She explores the evolution of icons by revisiting the Maison’s celebrated logo, infusing it with playful interpretations. The Lacoste crocodile is transformed into unique jewellery designs, featuring elements like bones, teeth, and eyes. Adding to the allure are a variety of tactile expressions, from bouclé jacquard to delicate lace trim on knits, and oversized prints that lean towards abstraction.

These elements, contrasted with micro motifs on lightweight summer shirts, silky pyjamas, and high-tech tracksuits, create a collection that beautifully merges elegance with a daring approach. Destined for any summer adventure, the colour palette brims with joy in nude tones, ranging from tan to rich espresso, while zesty yellows and greens further elevate the range for an energising contrast.
