The streets of London is filled with fashion utopia. Here’s three reasons why by three designers who have set runways and catwalks alight in London Fashion Week #LFW 2016.
Emilia Wickstead
Style: Print Play
A kimono silhouette with laser cut-out detail is smooth and easy sophistication, but pleasantly disrupted by patterned repetition and a playful spin on print play that exudes a ’60s feel with bell-bottom sleeves (and oh, we do love a plunging neckline too).
Print Play is found in a more subdued form in this Emilia Wickstead ensemble: where contrast of texture and volume breed. A floor-sweeping hemline in chartreuse and pink melon paired to juggle the notion of balance with a dash of juxtaposition.
Topshop Unique
Moody Glam
Topshop Unique asserts a tone with the sentiment to throw caution to the wind as it creates a persona that is cool and composed albeit unexpected colour combinations of a fur pea coat, a khaki green jumpsuit, and hello – a peeking pink top. Moody Glam makes it acceptable for textures to clash with colours (and with such nonchalance.)
Grunge is glamorous and quintessentially part of the Topshop Unique brand philosophy. Reminiscent of “Kate the Great” from a time when little Miss Moss, the preeminent Brit donned an unforgettable style that was mod and fashionably off-beat. This look has evolved since to reappear on the shoulders of street startlets, the mannish aesthetic – Moody Glam is fleshed out with an oversized, loosely fashioned menswear-inspired blazer.
Mary Katrantzou
Psychadelia Phenomenon
Never failing to provide an acid-trippin’, colour-drippin’ collection of organised fashion chaos is Mary Katrantzou, set in a backdrop of aluminium foil and swimming silver balloons – we are reminded the essence of Fashion Shows is theatre and drama. Star-studded motifs and zig-zagged monochrome amidst embroidery is a delightful treat and trip.
In an ideal world, life is always about hearts, butterflies and unicorns as Mary Katrantzou so vividly suggests on the runway. If the Psychadelia Phenomenon could speak it would speak words to let your imagination run wild and free without any discipline.
