With the completion of Paris Fashion Week, it’s time to recap the standout moments from the Fall 2016 collections—from fresh starts at storied houses to the return of the puffer and the most surprising front rows.

The Buzziest Show

Demna Gvasalia debuted his first collection for Balenciaga, and got a rave review from the industry securing his place as fashion’s most-wanted (and watched) designer.

The Return of the Salon Show

 Instead of a glitzy runway set, designers including Chanel, Givenchy and Saint Laurent opted for intimate salon settings (although Chanel’s, shown above, did boast over 4,000 chairs and a mile-long runway). At Saint Laurent, each chair had a gold, engraved plaque with the attendees name on it.

Anderson Finds his Stride

 J.W. Anderson delivered his most standout collection to date at Loewe. Every single thing had covetable, wearable, modern appeal.

The Conversation Starter

 The biggest talking point between editors over their morning cappuccino was the state of the industry, and whether the American-led “buy-now/wear-now” system would take off. Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry (shown above), Wes Gordon, and Misha Nonoo all announced that they would be introducing collections this way going forward.

Cult Label in the Making

Dries von Noten-alum Sander Lak debuted his new line ‘Sies Marjan’ at New York fashion to an intimate audience, immediately earning the title of “one to watch.”

The Best Throwback Front Row

 Betty Catroux, Pierre Bergé and Catherine Deneuve were all present at Slimane’s couture presentation, the heavyweights live on.

 The Front Row Guest of the Future

Willow Smith joined her brother during fashion month, and announced her new status as Chanel ambassador at the house’s show at the Grand Palais.

The Artist Collab

Gucci’s Alessandro Michele partnered with New York street artist and musician Trouble Andrew to spray-paint the Gucci “G” and other slogans (such as “real”) on bags and biker jackets—turning the idea of artist appropriation on its head.

The Hottest Parties

In New York, the fashion parties were all about the music—Diesel celebrated their Madison Avenue flagship with Travi$ Scott and Nick Jonas, Calvin Klein teamed up with Kelela, while A$AP Rocky honored his Guess collaboration with a performance for his fashionable fans. Over in London, Natalia Vodianova’s Fabulous Fund Fair had the style set partying for a good cause. L’Oreal ended fashion month on a red hot note with their supermodel ambassadors including Doutzen Kroes, Irina Shayk and Natasha Poly all dressed in crimson.

Designers looked to the street more than ever this season, with Sacai, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney and more all settling on a practical piece to interpret as their own: the puffer—or puffa as the Brits say.

The Return of the Perm

Runways like Isabel Marant championed the idea of, “big hair, don’t care,” while other runways simply embraced the natural texture of some models. The take away? Curls are back in a big way.
