Amal Clooney has been our workwear style icon ever since she first came on the scene, but this year, the human rights lawyer took some real risks, which is encouraging us to do the same for 2019.

Although she still displayed her always on-point office wear and made dressing for any event look easy, she also stepped out of her style comfort zone on a number of occasions this year, including wearing tailored trousers and an oversized floral skirt by up-and-coming designer Richard Quinn to the Met Gala in May, an event which she was chairing.

Of course, there were less risky outfits which made just as many headlines. The yellow Stella McCartney dress she wore to watch Meghan Markle marry Prince Harry is widely considered one of the best frocks of the year. She also made red velvet work for her and continued to embrace the trouser suit.

Want to dress like Clooney? Invest in some tailored, fitted frocks and workwear-appropriate separates, but don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone with colour or print.
