The best work sneakers blend practicality with style so effortlessly, they can coordinate with a variety of office-approved outfits. Since I tend to err on the side of comfort, I’ve gradually built a wardrobe of sneaker-oriented outfits that are appropriate for work. (One of my favorites is a classic suit set paired with a white t-shirt and chunky trainers, for example.)
I’m not the only one wearing sneakers before, during, and after a commute. Kate Bellman, senior managing fashion editor at Nordstrom, told Bazaar that she’s noticed a shift toward more casual footwear in the office. “As people are continuing with hybrid work, both versatility and comfort remain important factors in choosing shoe styles that work for multiple facets of their lifestyles,” Bellman said.
What exactly defines a work sneaker relative to other pairs? “Whether leaning towards iconic heritage styles, like a Converse All Star or an Adidas Samba, or more fashion-forward styles with amplified soles or stylistic details, a white sneaker brings a level of polish to any outfit,” Bellman said. Other neutral shades like black, beige, and cream also work well, as these hues can easily transition through a rotation of outfits.
