Audemars Piguet Combines Heritage and Modernity with its Mini Royal Oak Collection

Audemars Piguet unveils its Mini Royal Oak collection, featuring three latest miniature Royal Oak quartz models.

With a legacy steeped in rich traditions, Audemars Piguet has consistently pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship. Since its inception in 1875, the brand has been at the forefront of horological innovation, introducing revolutionary timepieces like the emblematic Royal Oak.

Since the 19th century, Audemars Piguet has introduced timeless classics to avant-garde creations. Today, the brand welcomes a contemporary interpretation of the 20mm Mini Royal Oak launched in 1997.  As a testament to its ongoing commitment to modernity, the Swiss Manufacturer introduces three new miniature 23mm Royal Oak quartz models.

Audemars Piguet’s latest Royal Oak Mini models:

Honouring Audemars Piguet’s history of miniature and jewellery watches, these petite watches stay true to the designs of the original Royal Oak by Gérald Genta in 1972. Crafted in 18-carat yellow, white, and pink gold, the Mini Oak collection is adorned with a Frosted Gold finish for a striking effect.

Taking inspiration from the ancient Florentine jewellery technique, Carolina Bucci made the Frosted Gold finish possible using the “Florentine finish” of her fine jewellery brand. In 2016, Audemars Piguet artisans adapted the finish to its timepieces—the Limited Edition Royal Oak “Carolina Bucci.”

The beauty behind the Royal Oak Mini

This decoration underlines the Royal Oak’s connection to the jewellery world while bringing a unique visual impact to the timepieces. Moreover, the models contrast the diamond-dust effect of the Frosted Gold on the octagonal bezel and bracelet links, creating an interplay of light. While the satin finish on the case and bracelet flanks add depth, texture and light, the solid caseback combines sandblasting, satin brushing and polishing to mirror the case design.

Magnifying the play of light, the tone-on-tone Petite Tapisserie pattern on the dial echoes the Frosted Gold case and bracelet. Furthermore, the luminous dial with glare-proofed sapphire crystal is complemented by facetted gold hour-markers, matching the colour of the case and filled with luminescent material for optimum visibility in the dark.

Additionally, the Audemars Piguet signature at 12 o’clock is printed in black on a cartouche to enhance legibility. However, the date indication and seconds scale are omitted to improve both legibility and the refinement of the guilloché dial.

Renowned for its superiority in watches, the Royal Oak Mini is powered by the quartz movement Calibre 2730. This movement combines a 15.7mm diameter and a 2.2mm thickness. On top of that, adding a frequency of 32.768 Hz and a battery life of 94 months. It also features a unique “switch” mechanism, allowing wearers to temporarily deactivate the battery by pulling on the crown.

The introduction of quartz movements in the ’80s led to the creation of smaller, higher-performance watches that were scaled down and up. Since 1980, the Swiss manufacturer has launched sizes between 20mm and 39mm. Eventually, this later inspired the latest Royal Oak Mini Frosted Gold Quartz timepieces you’re witnessing today.

The Royal Oak Mini Frosted Gold Quartz combines heritage and modernity, exuding glamour with a play of light. This interpretation continues to push boundaries through craftsmanship and styles that are definite conversation starters suitable for anyone’s everyday routine.
