Diamonds are a forever classic.
The History
From discovering the rarest stone to creating harmonious sets of gems, Van Cleef & Arpels created an extraordinary collection that depicts a fairytale-like narration for the first chapter of the Legend of Diamonds. Whereas the first chapter incorporated vibrant hues, the second chapter is devoted exclusively to colourless white diamonds with a sophisticated vintage flair.
The story of the Legend of diamonds began in 2018 when the Maison encountered a rough diamond, the Lesotho Legend, the fifth largest rough diamond in both size and optical clarity ever mined. Since then, Van Cleef & Arpels had an unparalleled sense of creativity, putting emphasis on their impeccable craftsmanship and creating timeless creations.
White Diamond Variations
This second chapter, Legend of diamonds also known as the White Diamond Variations collection, demonstrates the permanent place diamonds hold in the Maison’s jewellery designs and the way it has been showcased in its state-of-the-art high jewellery collections. Diamonds have been emblematic of the Maison ever since they sold a heart set with brilliant-cut diamonds in 1906.
Paying homage to the Maison’s rich heritage and the timeless beauty of the precious stone, the second chapter retraces the jewellers’ creative history by reimagining the past’s distinctive style and artistic trends.
Symbols of purity and eternity, diamonds emphasise the precious character of the collection. Chosen in a variety of cuts – round, baguette-cut, marquise-cut, rose-cut and pear-shaped – they have been selected to meet the especially high standards of the Maison’s gemological experts.
Featuring 82 pieces of jewellery, the collection embraced abstract designs, asymmetry pieces, and transformative styles. The collection sees pieces such as the Roaring Twenties necklace, an evening adornment in platinum and pavé diamonds reinterpreted with symmetrical lines to create a long, flowing piece and the Chrysler earrings, evoking the architecture of one of America’s first skyscrapers– the Chrysler Building. The piece both catching the eyes of the beholder with its stunning silhouette and brilliant diamonds.
The collection also featured iconic statement pieces such as the Boogie-Woogie bracelet that featured graphic lines that are reminiscent of the Maison’s archival designs from the late 1930s through the 1940s, when jewellery embraced sumptuous shapes and sizes.
Paying tribute to the creativity of the pieces of different eras, Van Cleef & Arpels crafted a beautiful collection that had creation depth and intense sparkle.
