Created by Greg Whiteley, who also directed the popular Netflix documentary “Cheer,” the show captured the ups and downs the cheerleaders endured to earn a spot on the team.

Since its release, the documentary series captured the hearts of girls globally. If you’re like us, you may have already added the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders costume to your shopping cart, as it seems to be the preferred choice for many enthusiastic fans this Halloween. The classic white and blue uniform with cowboy boots is too adorable to ignore.

However, many were surprised by this documentary. It turned out to be more than just “cheerleading” or “football.” The series dived deep into a completely different world of womanhood, portraying what “strong, independent women” from all backgrounds face and the process of getting to that state of mind.

Inspiring and aspirational role models were created in this documentary, and the preservation and dedication they had were unparalleled. These women were committed to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, even though it was mentioned that they were not getting paid nearly enough of what they should.

The series continued to show the blood, sweat, and tears they put into what they do and how their efforts inspired so many people.

It was heartwarming to witness the performers’ growth to confidence and their subsequent displays of unwavering enthusiasm, even in the face of adversity, during performances.

While this show inspired many, viewers have pointed out how it set unrealistic beauty standards or promoted the idea of looking a certain way to fit the criteria, sparking self-consciousness and insecurities in the audience. Young girls would watch the documentary with heart eyes, thinking that this could be their dream too. However, this also sets the tone for unrealistic expectations, believing that they must meet a certain standard of ability or beauty in order to be deemed successful or attractive. This can negatively impact their mental health and self-esteem.​

Even though their abilities and commitment were showcased in this presentation, appearance and projecting a certain image still take centre stage. This could result in problems with body image, which could then trigger harmful habits.

One thing is certain despite the differing opinions:
