According to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, about 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide in 2022, making it the second-most-common cancer among women. Without proper awareness, some women might fail to recognise early warning signs. The worst part? Breast cancer can go undetected for a long time before the lumps in the breasts are of significance. Thus, early detection is important for women.

Organisations such as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation have always been putting in the work by educating the community about the disease and supporting survivors wherever they can. To rally with this foundation, even some of our favourite brands—like Ralph Lauren, Jo Malone and GHD—have shown support for breast health.

At BAZAAR, we have made it our mission to spread awareness of breast health every year. In the past, we have conducted breast cancer awareness talks, afternoon teas and clinical breast examinations for our BAZAAR Cliques to spearhead our support for the disease. And, this year was no different.

Inside BAZAAR Cliques’ Pink October Afternoon Tea:

Pink October

This year, BAZAAR hosted an afternoon tea at W Kuala Lumpur in their WOW suite to raise awareness and engage with the community. Working hand in glove with our afternoon were breast cancer warriors Sharon Gomez and Joulinet Chong, and medical specialist, Sumitra Selvaraj from the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia — who banded together to share their stories.

From heartfelt tributes to inspiring stories and teaching us the dos and don’ts, the afternoon tea was peppered with emotional depth. The three ladies came together detailing the importance of early screening and having a support system, while sharing their battle with cancer — showcasing their strength and determination.

To lighten the mood of the taxing topic, W Kuala Lumpur r set up a delightful, pink-themed afternoon tea for all the attendees. The ladies had the chance to devour savoury and sweet offerings that were made to perfection. From a cured salmon beetroot bagel to a rose lychee torte and vanilla cardamom scone, the high tea was dotted with delicious delights. Ending the day on a good note, the W Hotel also bestowed us with a breathwork meditation session taught by Guru Kiranjit.

All in all, our Pink October session was of paramount importance with a touch of light-hearted hues that was cherished by our BAZAAR friends.
