Huddled together on a drizzly daybreak—it was in this hushed, cloudy day that we laid a feat with Charis Ow and Volvo Car Malaysia for a #MyVolvoVibe escapade. Fortified by a clean, confident and purposeful profile, the Volvo XC60, the day unfolded with exhilaration, laughter and adventure. It was even made better by the XC60’s intuitive technology, comfortable interior, safety standards, and classic Scandinavian design. Still grasping the carbon-copy silhouettes of its predecessor, the hybrid powertrain vehicle was able to zip us throughout the city and up the hills with comfort, enjoying endless activities on our plate.

Equipped with a quick and smooth shifting 8-speed Geartronic automatic, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision avoidance—the XC60 makes every swerve, acceleration, and braking manoeuvre safer than ever. Testing out these performance features, we took a stab at a Volvo 101 car challenge that involved: Zero to Hundred Reaction, Text While Slalom, Don’t Hit The Moose and Lane Change (Don’t Hit Luigi) tests. From zipping across the parking lot to skidding around a pretend moose and trying not to massacre cones, we learned heaps about Volvo’s safety features through these exhilarating track obstacles—laughing and screaming and yet feeling safe at every turn. Topping off the experience was its comfort level. All the textures, fabrics and attention to detail of the XC60 felt like butter with every settling, making sure that we never falter midstride. But the adventure doesn’t stop there.

With the 11.2-inch freestanding display, powered by Google built-in, navigating the roads—in the city and up the hills—was a breeze. So, what better way to spend the day than immersing in a slew of activities that heal our mind, body and soul. With contextual shortcuts, a touchscreen and tons of applications, checking traffic, switching driving modes and queuing the next song was simple. It was even more dependable with the voice commands through Google Assistant. Settling behind the wheel of the XC60 to Lean Wellness Centre, CocoDry and Tiarasa Escapes Glamping Resort felt comfortable and safe—as you’d expect a Volvo car to be. And, when we felt secure enough, listening to music on the Spotify application with the Bower & Wilkins High Fidelity sound system left us bopping and singing along to a variety of beats—a cinematic moment that we’ll never forget.
And, since we were out and about exploring, the XC60 has ample storage for everyone and everything. With a boot that holds up to 468 litres with the rear backrests up and up to 950 litres with them folded down, we got to tote around workout clothes, water to hydrate and even an abundance of sartorial pieces for different shindigs—a drive up to a resort, a fireside chat and a riverside breakfast. This is Scandinavian design philosophy at its finest—thoughtful, elegant, and purposeful.
