Discover the stories of Nadhir Nasar, Nazreem Musa and Hael Husaini and what three of the biggest names in fashion, acting and music have in common.
The early morning light streamed through the studio windows, signalling the start of a momentous day. As the doors opened, our November Cover Stars made their grand entrance, each exuding a captivating aura that left everyone in the room spellbound. It was clear from the get-go that they were here to make a statement, and boy, did they deliver.
One may wonder what three of the biggest names in Malaysia’s fashion, acting, and music industry – Nazreem Musa, Nadhir Nasar, and Hael Husaini – have more in common, as there is definitely more to what meets the eye.
A Journey That Sparked at a Young Age
Starting their journey at a young age, these three superstars began their careers in fashion.
While many may know him for being an actor, Nadhir Nasar actually entered the industry as a fashion model. Being in front of the camera since the age of 19, he first caught the attention of many at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, which he consecutively walked for three years from 2016 to 2018.
Unlike Nadhir, who was used to being in front of the camera, Hael Husaini began his career behind the camera as a fashion photographer. While working the camera, for him, singing was a hobby. It was when he took the leap of confidence to join a few auditions for various competitions that put his name on the map.
Like the two, Nazreem’s love for fashion can be traced back to his childhood, where he spent quality time with his mother while shopping. Those mother-and-son bonding moments were Nazreem’s first introduction to the world of fashion, as they would pick out items for each other. Eventually, Nazreem’s passion for fashion blossomed over time, transforming him into a true style icon.
Daring to be Different: Celebrating Personal Style
They often say that someone’s style is an expression of their personality. Thus, with three personalities come three different senses of styles.
In our world today, everyone strives for the perfect outfit. But what exactly is the definition of perfect?
For Nazreem Musa, he shares, “Focus on what makes you feel confident and what you already have. It is about what you pick and choose and how you curate your outfit. Pick outfits that compliment yourself and use your ability as a creative to be a fashion chameleon.”
Constantly pushing the boundaries, you’ll often find Nazreem experimenting with multiple silhouettes. In a world with many trends, it’s clear that he is a true trendsetter.
On the other hand, Nadhir Nasar likes to embrace clean lines and minimalistic designs with the rise of quiet luxury. In this timeless generation, where less is more, one can keep it elegant yet sophisticated. With streetwear being his favourite, he prefers to keep things minimal yet mature, mentioning that some of his favourite designers include Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander Mcqueen and Tom Ford.
For Hael Husaini, the superstar is often spotted in oversized silhouettes, prioritising comfort and movement, particularly for stage performances.
In the Limelight: The Unexpected Challenges
Being in the limelight doesn’t come without any challenges.
For Hael, he shared how his most significant challenges were his own insecurities and stage fright. “These issues used to conquer me back then. It was hard to face people and perform in front of strangers. It took me years to pull everything together and overcome this kind of weakness. I’ve learnt a lot about how to absorb judgment and criticism by always accepting my flaws and channelling them into something positive”, says Hael Husaini.
Nadhir humbly shared how he had to get used to being in front of the public eye. “I think people often underestimate the sacrifices they must make until they experience them firsthand. When it comes to my daily life, such as going to the mall, I realise people will make a point to look and stare at you. However, just like any career, you win some and lose some.”
A Family Man at Heart: Unveiling Motivation and Future Aspirations
When asked what keeps them motivated, it was clear that family will always be a big part of their success.
“My biggest motivation is my family. They are my biggest source of inspiration and my strongest supporters as well. I’ve always wanted to work harder so that their life in the future will be assured,” says Hael Husaini
As our photo shoot draws to a close, we asked the three boys for advice for those looking to enter their industry and what they can expect.
When discovering your personal style, Nazreem continues to share, “It is always better to try and fail than not trying at all. Trust me, there are things in the past that I wished I did. As long as it doesn’t go against your principal. Do it. Try. That’s how you find your identity.”
For aspiring musicians, Hael expresses, “My advice is to just grab a microphone and sing! Just start somewhere and give yourself years to grow. Talent will always be something that we can develop. Do your things, focus and never give up. Things will come your way, so enjoy the journey. Eventually, you will get there”.
Lastly, for those who aspire to discover where they belong, “Focus on one thing at a time. My dad used to tell me that you can become whatever you want in this world, but always aim to be the best. He would say, ‘If you want to become a Petani (farmer), you need two acres of land. If you want to become a Nelayan (fisherman), you at least need to own your own ship,’” concludes Nadhir Nasar.
