In the Mood for Raya With Anna Jobling

While we may be forced to celebrate a quieter Eid this year, let us not forget that the true spirit of this holy celebration lies in simplicity and empathy. We caught up with model and actress Anna Jobling on what the festivities will be like for her this round.

How will you be spending Eid MCO 3.0?

“The safest way. Honestly, I’ll just be staying at home with my family and cats. There’s not much we can do since most of my relatives are in Melaka and other states, but I’m grateful that I have my family with me. Hopefully next year we can have a proper celebration.”

What song gets you in the mood for Raya?

“To be honest, I love any classic Raya song. Something that no matter what age, my family and I can dance or sing along to. I personally prefer the classics such as Suasana Hari Raya by Datuk Sharifah Aini or Selamat Hari Raya by Puan Sri Saloma.”

What’s your ultimate fave Raya dish?

“Since I don’t eat meat, my personal favourite is nasi impit (compressed cooked rice) and kuah kacang (peanut sauce). I love it when my mum makes kuah kacang, I could honestly eat it every day. I don’t have a sweet tooth either, but I do enjoy some kuih here and there like the Almond London or Tart Nenas.”

What outfit will you wear on the first day of Eid?

“I’m so grateful that several brands have sent me baju raya this year. It’s so hard for me to pick which one to wear, but my mum got this really pretty dark red and purple baju raya, and I received one in the same colour from Lubna from Zalora, so I’ll be wearing that one first to match with her!”
