Everything That Went Down at the ‘I Am Woman’ Premiere

Biz of Re honours four influential women with a momentous star-studded affair at the screening debut of the ‘I Am Woman’ short film.

On 4 July 2023, we held the debut screening of the short film, ‘I Am Woman’, at the spectacular Aurum Theatre featuring four powerhouse ladies: Fashion Designer Alia Bastamam, Dancer January Low, Singer Mimi Fly and Multidisciplinary Artist Suhaili Micheline.

No stranger to the scene, these trailblazing powerhouses have impacted their industries and inspired others to follow in their footsteps. Whether it’s through dance, art, or creating stunning silhouettes, their dedication, drive, and perseverance have demonstrated that the seemingly impossible can be achieved.

A group of remarkable women from Kuala Lumpur attended the soirée, dressed in their finest attire while following the resplendent “red impact” dress code. As they entered, they walked elegantly through an experiential tunnel decorated with the much-awaited “I Am Woman” campaign and L’Oreal Professionnel’s iNOA hair colouring range, our campaign sponsor. At the event, fashion designer Melinda Looi and actress Bella Rahim graced the floor in Melinda Looi, no less. (In fact, Bella shared that she sees herself as a muse to Melinda). Other attendees include Cocodry founder Kim May Chee, model and content creator Nalisa Alia Amin, model Vanizha Vasanthanathan, content creator Athisha Khan, co-founder of Hanya Veen Dee Tan, founder of La Juiciera Anabelle Co-Martinent and beyond.

The space was filled with some of the most influential women in the city. The energy in the room was electric, and you could feel the sense of excitement for what was to come. As laughter and chatter filled the air as they mingled, sipping on champagne and mocktails and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres, it was a powerful sight to see so many successful women gathered together, sharing stories and ideas.

The room was adorned with beautiful blooms by Hobby Florist KL, creating a divine atmosphere. Malaysia’s girl group, Tiga Soul, performed their soulful tunes, further elevating the ambience. Powerful, impactful, yet inspiring, these ladies did a splendid job in getting the crowd going.

Following that, the esteemed Creative Director for Digital & Special Projects, Nisa’ Halid, delivered a powerful speech that left the audience feeling inspired. In choosing these four inspiring women for the campaign, she highlighted their personal stories, accomplishments, and victories.

As the speech came to a close, Nisa stated, “To all the women in the room and beyond – remember, you are capable, you are powerful, and you are a woman.”

With movie tickets in hand, guests were filled with anticipation to witness the debut of the ‘I Am Woman’ short film. As they made their way into the theatre and located their seats, the lights dimmed, signalling the commencement of the screening. The film lasted approximately 20 minutes and garnered a warm reception from the audience, who erupted in applause as it concluded. Our guests then spent the evening engaging with each other expressing their love for the film and representation of the four influential women. Some even shared that they wish it could be longer.

It was an evening to remember, and if we could, we would do it all over again.

Special thanks to our guests, L’Oreal Professionnel, Hobby Florist KL, as well as The Aurum Theatre, for their support towards our ‘I Am Woman’ premiere.
