“It’s been almost a year since I’ve delayed my coral propagation course with Oceanquest, but perhaps there’s no better time than now to finally get on with it once this MCO ends. Having discussed the importance our oceans to world’s ecosystems with Dr Sylvia Earle at a Rolex symposium mid last year, I was inspired to join the cause, coming across Batu Batu Resort’s conservation project in Tengah Island along the way. As one of Malaysia’s leading sustainable establishments, marine biologists at the resort work hand in hand with the tourism sector and other NGOs to make a difference, running the gamut from farm-to-table dining to rehabilitating the coast’s turtle population. As a diver myself, I hope to be able to work with institutions such as Batu Batu and Tengah Island Conservation to be able to conserve our environment better, and learn more about the ways our oceanic ecosystems can fruition through improved sustainability, and the spirit of community.”
