Are You One of the 48% of Women Who Sleep in Their Make-Up?

After quizzing 500 women in the UK, beauty brand bareMinerals revealed that a substantial 48% admit to sleeping in their make-up – the cardinal skin sin. Why so? Christmas party or no Christmas party, the experts disapprove.

“This clogs up your pores and can increase the risk of acne and blackheads developing,” warns dermatologist Dr Nathan Holt of the UK’s leading skincare group Sk:n. “Although it may seem tedious at the time, making sure to cleanse before bed will save your skin in the long term and a good cleanser will keep your skin looking radiant,” he adds.

Try telling us that at 4am on New Year’s Eve, though.

Party products to invest in

While we don’t recommend it, if you know you’re likely to sleep while still wearing a full face more than once this party season, it could help to invest in pure, mineral make-up which has fewer skin-irritating ingredients.

Naturally, bareMinerals recommends their range and have even trademarked the tagline ‘make-up so pure, you can sleep in it’. They offer liquid, loose powder and pressed powder mineral foundations including the BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation SPF 20 (available in 30 shades, £29), a breathable full coverage foundation – perfect for party make-up. Their claim that it’s skin loving is backed up by an independent clinical trial of 31 women, where 100% of participants saw a 36% improvement in skin texture after the first week. Impressive.
