Took them long enough, but the good people at Apple have finally bestowed Malaysians with its mobile payment service, Apple Pay, as of 9 August 2022. Whether you’re shopping in-store, online, or from within any one of your apps, you’re able to pay quickly and conveniently using the service, effective immediately.

Anybody with an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch will be able to make payments in an easier, safer, and more secure way using just their devices. For example, if you were making an in-store purchase, all you’d have to do is hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the contactless terminal, and the rest is simply history.

If you have Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards from Maybank, AmBank, and Standard Chartered Bank, you can proceed to set up Apple Pay on your Apple device. This service will only be made available to American Express cardholders later this year.

Push all your security concerns aside as security and privacy are core tenets of Apple Pay. The service features industry-leading protection of all personal, transactional, and card information. Your credit and debit card numbers are not stored on your device or Apple servers. Instead, you are assigned an encrypted Device Account Number which is securely stored on your device.

Every payment you make with Apple Pay needs to be authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode, as well as a one-time unique dynamic security code. Should you lose your device, all Apple Pay functions can be suspended using Find My iPhone.

Some merchants already accepting Apple Pay include McDonald’s, Machines, Village Grocer, Uniqlo, Sephora, and Adidas.
