Colgate recently introduced a ten minute at-home teeth whitening kit—and here’s our experience with the smile transforming device.

As an avid coffee drinker myself, maintaining a pearly white smile is difficult. But not willing to give up my daily cup of caffeine, I’ve turned to solutions like whitening strips and at-home kits to ease the stains instead. Having tried a handful of brands already, I can confidently say that Colgate’s new Optic White FlexLight LED Kit is very impressive. My main issue with these kits previously are the whitening gels and how they affect my gums but this Colgate Optic White option relies on the Active Oxygen Whitening tech and patented indigo LED light to whiten teeth, a process that is reportedly gentler and doesn’t cause teeth sensitivity.

The Optic White FlexLight LED kit comes with three main pieces: the Optic White FlexLight LED device, an Optic White O2 Teeth Whitening Pen and and a USB-cord that can connect any of your smartphone. At first feel, the LED device is soft and moldable and can easily be manipulated to fit into any mouth. The device connects via a cable to a mobile device, making it super portable and easy to use.

How it Works

What makes the new Optic White FlexLight LED Device so innovative is the introduction of Colgate’s patented indigo light—a more efficient energy compared to blue light. The whitening experience starts with the teeth whitening pen. Infused with the active oxygen, the serum in the pen creates a potent layer of active oxygen once applied that penetrates the teeth, thus initiating the whitening process. This process is amplified by the patented indigo LED light of the mouthpiece, which accelerates the serum and its whitening process. When combined, the active oxygen and indigo light work together to gently whiten teeth from within. Promising to lighten teeth by three shades in just ten minutes every night, I couldn’t wait to try it for myself.

My Experience

 

Unlike my past experiences with whitening strips and gels, I felt a very minimal tingle once I used the pen to apply the serum. Usually I experience an uncomfortable sensation on the teeth and gums but with this Active Oxygen Whitening formula, the feeling was almost non-existent. And its easy-to-use applicator allows me to coat the teeth as accurately as possible. 

Once the serum was applied, activating the FlexLight LED device was a breeze—I simply plugged it into my phone and toggled the “on” switch, making it incredibly convenient and allowing me to move around hands-free. I proceeded to do my nighttime skincare routine, even with the device in my mouth, caused zero issue. It signalled with a single beep after five minutes, marking the halfway point, and then twice after ten minutes, signalling that my treatment had concluded. Not needing to brush the serum away, I love that you can let the serum work overnight as you sleep.

My Final Review

Having tried quite a number of at-home whitening kits over the past few years I can say the Colgate Optic White FlexLight LED kit is one of the better ones and it does deliver on its ten minute supercharged whitening action promise. The actual LED device is comfortable to wear and super portable too, meaning you can get a lot of other things done while the device works in the background. I was quite nervous about the teeth whitening pen’s formula but thankfully I experienced almost no discomfort. And finally, it fit swimmingly into my hectic lifestyle. Taking only ten minutes per day and revealing such great results in that short amount of time—I couldn’t ask for more.
