Fuelled by the likes of Bella Hadid and Beyoncé, the Western silhouette is taking over – and it makes a practical proposition, whatever the weather.

It’s safe to say that the autumn/winter 2025 collections made a strong case for women’s cowboy boots: the classic Western silhouette was spotted at Gabriela Hearst, Vaquera and Burberry, to name a few. But while designers may have manifested the shoe’s runway renaissance, it’s the A-list that have cemented Americana style as the look of the season.
When Beyoncé dropped her country-inspired album, Cowboy Carterearlier this year, online searches for Stetsons, double denim and cowboy boots boomed. Elsewhere in Hollywood, equestrian Bella Hadid (and her real-life cowboy boyfriend) are wearing blue bootcut denim with their battered leather boots. Kendall Jenner has been spotted in several pairs of Western boots, styled with everything from slip dresses and floral maxis to joggers and cycling shorts, and Emily Ratajkowski has been keeping things Eighties-preppy in oversized blazers and straight-leg denim. As you can see from these references, a great pair of cowboy boots is about as versatile (and trans-seasonal) as footwear comes.
Once you look beyond the dated (not to mention slightly appropriative) Coachella tropes, you can appreciate cowboy boots for the true staple they are. But, if you’re not planning on donning a pair of Daisy Dukes, or attending any summer festivals, how can you wear a pair day-to-day.
The key is to avoid anything too costumey. Take cues from Isabel Marant, who debuts different iterations every season; paired with boho cotton dresses in the spring and tucked into balloon jeans come autumn. Or, try swapping your summer sandals for a pair – they’ll add just the right amount of attitude to billowy prairie maxis, kitsch floral midis or anything bias-cut.
Cowboy boots translate after sunset, too. Anthony Vaccarello’s penchant for weaving western touches into his glamorous 1980s-inspired eveningwear means the two references are now synonymous; so opt for black boots and you can style yours with everything from patent mini skirts and and 20-denier tights to sequins. And once the party is over? Go off-duty with a Princess Diana-inspired tuck. Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner have been known to do this with joggers – and that’s about as 2025 as it gets.
