From sleek, minimalist designs to upcycled treasures, below is an edit of our favourite new bags of the season.
A bag can make or break your outfit–and your day. When it comes to Malaysian designers, functionality is almost always taken into consideration in their designs; it’s that level of consideration and thoughtfulness that builds them a loyal following in the region. They manage to fit in practical elements, such as adjustable straps, spacious interiors, or additional pockets, into their unique aesthetics.

Kit Woo’s Boomerang Bag
This new silhouette from Kit Woo’s latest ready-to-wear collection is the perfect amount of soft and slouchy. Crafted from textured quilted nylon, it holds a surprising amount under its curved flap. Carried on the shoulder or held in the crook of the arm, the Boomerang bag hangs perfectly on the body, offering a dynamism that is maximised by Kit Woo’s trademark ‘tali’ detailing as well as its minimalist silver tag held by delicate, hanging thread.

Caro Chia’s Faro Bag
“It took more than a year to design and develop many failed bags, yet it only took me one day to design this bag that speaks my language,” reveals Caro Chia. Her debut bag, Faro, is a faux suede piece with clean lines that mimic the signature in all her clothing designs. With an adjustable strap, it can also be worn cross body to achieve an edgier look. Available in black and brown, this sleek and structural bag is a must-have in every wardrobe.

Khoon Hooi’s Nozomi Bag
The Nozomi bags by Malaysian couturier Khoon Hooi are part of his efforts to reduce waste in his design process; he has been producing upcycled bags with leftover fabrics for many years. This line of bags is specially designed to raise funds for WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts in the region. It features five designs, Bamboo, Fern, Crane, Koi and Tiger, on its structured body made from upcycled brocade, each topped with an elegant bamboo handle.
