Louis Vuitton Celebrates 130 Years of the Legendary Monogram

The Louis Vuitton Monogram is 130 Years Old.

Every legacy begins with a dream. However, a tale told through elegance begins in the heart of Paris. In a world where movements come and go in every fleeting moment, one symbol stands resolute. A legendary pattern that transcends time and tells a story of heritage intertwined with modernity: the Louis Vuitton Monogram.

For Louis Vuitton, the significance of the Monogram is more than just a pattern; it’s a testament to invention, artistry and unparalleled savoir-faire. It all began in 1896 when Georges Vuitton, son of the esteemed Louis Vuitton, emerged from his father’s influential shadow with a visionary approach. In an era plagued by imitation, where the signature creations of Louis Vuitton were at risk of being diluted by counterfeiters, Georges sought solutions.

Enter the Monogram—a stunning interplay of interlaced initials and elegant floral medallions that would change the game of fashion, rooted in its heritage and timeless design. In the midst of Asnières, France, surrounded by the rich textures of Gien faïence tiles and the shimmering light of stained glass, Georges drew inspiration from the intricate quatrefoils and trefoils that adorned Gothic cathedrals.

Following his father’s death, Georges sought to honour his legacy in a way that was both profound and inventive.
