Bid Farewell to Tech Nech
Once considered a niche luxury, neck creams are now becoming part of a much wider skincare conversation. Much of that renewed interest can be traced back to a recent exchange between Keke Palmer and Nia Long. After Keke complimented Nia on her remarkably smooth neck, the actress casually credited years of using neck cream since her twenties.
Do neck creams actually work? From “tech neck” to collagen-boosting formulas, we explore the science behind the category and the products leading the conversation.

Naturally, the internet had questions. Mostly, do we really need a separate cream for the neck?
The short answer is not necessarily. But there is some science behind why the neck tends to show signs of ageing earlier than other areas of the face and body. The skin on the neck and décolletage is thinner, produces less oil, and is constantly in motion. Add in years spent looking down at phones and laptops, and it is hardly surprising that fine lines, creases and pigmentation often appear there first. Dermatologists have even coined the term “tech neck” to describe the horizontal lines caused by repetitive downward movement.
That is where neck creams come in. Unlike standard moisturisers, many are formulated specifically for concerns such as loss of firmness, crepey texture, uneven tone and deeper folds. Ingredients commonly found in these formulas include peptides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, collagen-supporting retinoids and caffeine to temporarily tighten and smooth the skin.

Luxury beauty brands have long understood the appeal. Clarins offers its Super Restorative Décolleté and Neck Concentrate, designed to target wrinkles, dark spots and skin density with replenishing botanical extracts aimed at mature skin. Meanwhile, Sisley Paris has built its Neck Cream around a multi-pronged approach that focuses on lifting, firming, refining and nourishing the delicate area through ingredients such as oat seed extract, soy fibre extract and caffeine combined with red algae.
Then there is Natura Bissé and its Inhibit Tensolift Neck Cream, which leans heavily into hydration and restructuring with ingredients like biomimetic complexes, dual hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and amaranth oil. The positioning is very much clinical luxury, with formulas that acknowledge how repetitive movement and thinner skin contribute to visible ageing around the neck and chest.
Still, not everyone is looking to spend hundreds on a dedicated neck treatment. Closer to home, Korean beauty brands are approaching the category in a way that feels more accessible and practical. One recent standout is CKD’s Retino Collagen Small Molecule 300 Guasha Neck Cream, which combines retinal, collagen, elastin, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid with a built-in gua sha applicator. It turns a functional skincare step into something that feels a little more ritualistic, while also targeting hydration and elasticity.
Sheet masks designed specifically for the neck are also becoming increasingly popular and ANUA’s PDRN Collagen Melting Patch for Neck sits at the top of that list. Infused with collagen and PDRN, the patch is designed to soften fine lines and improve radiance not only around the neck, but also across areas like smile lines and the forehead.
So, do you need a neck cream? Probably not in the strictest sense. But if it encourages consistent care, better hydration and a few extra moments of massage and sun protection, there are certainly worse beauty habits to pick up. Especially considering our collective screen time won’t be decreasing anytime soon.
