Yasmin Le Bon is giving the public a chance to buy pieces from her designer wardrobe via an archive sale with pre-owned online fashion marketplace Vestiaire Collective. Highlights include an Azzedine Alaïa blck dress personally given as a gift by the designer himself and a Chanel dress worn to accept an award on behalf of Karl Lagerfeld.
She admits that it wasn’t easy to part with some of the items, but sometimes a wardrobe purge is necessary.
“The off-the-shoulder black Alaïa dress is steeped with memories,” Le Bon told us. “I’ve worn it so much; it was a real moment in time in my life. Life was exciting; I was married, I’d had my first child, it was a really ‘full’ time. I never knew if I was coming or going. Alaïa to me is like an armour. I always feel powerful and strong in it, so these pieces were pretty hard to let go of.”
The sale, which launches online on 19 July, will also feature an Alaïa leather jacket, a decorative Pucci shirt and leopard-print Manolo Blahnik heels. With a 30-year fashion career behind her, it’s fair to say Le Bon’s clothing collection is impressive. How does she decide what to keep and what to get rid of?
“I’m not sure what it is, I can’t put my finger on it, but I know I shouldn’t have pieces I don’t wear and so then it’s time to let go of that certain item,” she said. “They deserve to be worn, so I hope that they all go to good homes that will give them a new exciting life.”
Le Bon believes that our approach to shopping will change in the future and that reselling is a good place to start.
“The way we consume needs to change,” she says. “I’m not sure how and there’s not one solution, but I think there are exciting times ahead with reusing. We all have to move on. I think that’s what’s great about Vestiaire – pieces that you treasure aren’t always going to be right for your life, you move on and evolve and change, but they can have another life with someone else who will love and treasure them.”
