Yves Saint Laurent is well versed in the area of cult footwear, as seen with its £7,000 rhinestone-encrusted boots that were worn by celebrities and influencers alike back in 2017. For autumn/winter 2019, it has a new sell-out shoe in its sights – flouro courts that glow under UV light.

Held in a giant mirrored box in the Fontaine du Trocadero, the 20-minute show was a light installation formed of two parts, the latter of which models walked in UV light. Evening dresses, accessories and neon shoes glowed in the dark creating statement-making looks that will be big news come party season.
The YSL autumn/winter 2019 show was inspired by the eighties, most specifically “the sophisticated and liberated spirit of Betty Catroux, Bianca Jagger and Catherine Deneuve”. Shoulders were exaggerated and silhouettes were structured. designed to empower women.
Although the neon feathered coats and light-up cocktail dresses will doubtlessly feature on influencer Instagram feeds later this year, it’s the YSL shoes that will have broader appeal. There is no set launch date for the neon footwear yet, but a spokesperson for the label said that autumn/winter collections usually arrive in stores in May.
The brand will be hoping to replicate its cult slouchy rhinestone boots which, despite its hefty price tag, sold out around the world, sparking numerous high street copies. Other recent YSL shoe hits include its logo court heels which debuted in September 2017.
