Award season is always full of glitz, glamour and the most majestic creations walking down the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2020. But do you really know what goes into the making of our favourite celebs’ dresses?
The second we saw BAZAAR Malaysia’s October 2019 cover star on the red carpet in custom Louis Vuitton, we were mesmerized. Stunning in a silver number with poofy sleeves (and crystal eye make-up to match) and a subtle leg slit — absolutely gorgeous. And of course, Michelle Williams stole the show with her win for Best Actress, stood up for abortion rights in her acceptance speech and turned heads on the red carpet in a peach gown by Louis Vuitton. Inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2020 collection, this dress took over 400 hours to create.

215 hours were needed to create it, from initial pattern cutting to alterations and assembling. An additional 200 hours were needed to complete the hand-embroidery alone.

15 meters of velvet, specially woven with silk and Lurex yarn were required for this dress. The dress features silk-thread lace and guipure lace along the collar, sleeves and across the shoulders and back.
More than 8000 glass beads in two shades of silver were embroidered across.

The beads added some embellishment and texture to the design and made it all the more breathtaking.

Radiant on the red carpet, a pregnant Michelle Williams inevitably stole the show on and off the stage at the Golden Globes. As a longtime ambassador for the French house, her dress was inspired by a look from the brand’s Spring-Summer 2020 collection.

In silk crepe, the gown features an asymmetric and draped body with knotted details across the shoulders and a cinched waistband — the perfect way to compliment Michelle’s baby bump.

Approximately 156 hours to create the dress, the detail we love the most is the flower that sits on her shoulder. A sculptured piece of bluish-purple hybrid between an iris and orchid, the handcrafted piece certainly completes the entire look.
