Meet Chemena Kamali, Chloé’s new Creative Director

Meet Chemena Kamali.

As of the announcement on the 10th of October 2023, Chemena Kamali has been appointed Chloé’s new creative director following the departure of Gabriella Hearst. Hearst recently presented her final collection with the brand at Paris Fashion Week, following a three-year term with the French fashion house.

In a statement, Chloé President and CEO Riccardo Belleni expressed his excitement to see Chemena’s vision come to life and his belief that “her vision, inspired by her love for the brand, will truly celebrate Chloé’s unique DNA.” Founded by Gaby Aghion in 1952, the French Fashion house is known for its youthful and feminine embodiment of designs.

1) Chemena was born in a city known for its fashion and art scene.

Destined for a creative role, Chemena was born in Germany’s fashion capital, Düsseldorf, a city known for its flourishing fashion and art scene. Düsseldorf is home to several museums, boutique shops and a famous city centre fashion street.

2) She received her Master’s at Central Saint Martains University of the Arts.

In 2007, Chemena completed her Master’s at Central Saint Martins, a prestigious art and design school in London, where she graduated with distinction. The renowned school is known for its celebrated notable alumni, including Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Riccardo Tisci and John Galliano.

3) Chemena is no stranger to Chloé

Chemena first joined the fashion house under former creative director Phoebe Philio. She later returned as Design director under Artistic director Clare Waight Keller in 2013.

4) Saint Laurent

Before her return to Chloé, Chemena worked with Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vacarello, where she took on the role of Saint Laurent Women’s Ready to Wear Design director.

5) Work in Fashion

While she has kept a generally low- profile, Chemena has been a part of the fashion industry for quite some time now. Aside from her work with Chloé and Saint Laurent, she has worked with Alberta Ferretti, Frame and Strennesse throughout her career.

“My heart has always been Chloé’s. It has been since I stepped through its doors more than 20 years ago. Returning feels natural and very personal.”, says Chemena, who is set to present her first collection with Chloé as creative director in 2024.
