Beauty lessons to learn from Lucy Boynton

This year's beauty poster girl? Lucy Boynton – without a doubt. When it comes to the red carpet, no one has turned heads in 2019 quite like the British-American actress. Onlookers may have fallen for her portrayal of Mary Austin in the biographical Bohemian Rhapsody, or in her leading role as Astrid Sloan in The Politician, but Boynton’s star continues to shine off the screen. Dressed by Bazaar's style director-at-large Leith Clark, Boynton takes a fearless approach to fashion, in surprising ensembles that are mirrored by her make-up. The look is experimental, while maintaining an elegance. Isn’t that the holy grail?

Here, her inspiring make-up artist Jo Baker explains the key to striking this balance, and how we can channel Boynton’s beauty approach this looming party season.

Let your lashes do the talking

Boynton’s long, thick, spidery lashes are her signature. “We both love lashes that command attention,” Baker says. Personally, she’s a huge fan of lash clumps. “I think it adds an edge of modern rebelliousness to the female ideal,” she explains. “A girl so beautifully dressed and put together can often show her inner mood with how she finishes her lashes… so whether you prefer refined and perfect or clumpy and spidery, I think your lashes are the perfect way to showcase your personality.” And we can all work a mascara wand. “I have been a fan of Sisley So CurlNars Climax and Covergirl Exhibitionist mascaras for years, but I’m always on the lookout for my new next favourite,” she says.
