Exclusive Interview with Zoë Kravitz and YSL Beauty

Zoë Kravitz

The embodiment of the YSL woman, Zoë Kravitz continues her love story with the House and is kicking off the year with a brand new Black Opium campaign. As alluring as she is bold, she is no stranger to the beauty sphere with her distinct high cheekbones and impeccably effortless style. An empowering figure that’s always one to champion individuality, it is no surprise she’s found a home at YSL Beauty—mirroring and echoing their sentiment. Here, she shares exclusively with Harper’s BAZAAR Malaysia on what beauty means to her, her favourite YSL Beauty products and her favourite beauty tricks.

What is your beauty philosophy?

ZK: My beauty philosophy always revolves around bringing what’s on the inside, outward. I believe that how you treat yourself and what you say to yourself on the inside is what will then be reflected on the outside.

What are your favourite YSL Beauty products?

ZK: Definitely the Touche Éclat High Cover Radiant Under-Eye Concealer and the Couture Brow Slim for my brows—they are my go-to’s and it’s all I mostly need on a day-to-day basis.

What’s one product that makes you feel empowered?

ZK: I would say the Velvet Slim Radical lipsticks. I love it! Who doesn’t love a bold bright lip. It comes in a selection of really great colours that suit so many different people and skin tones. My personal favourite from this line is 302 Brown. No Way Back—it’s an everyday shade that just speaks to me and gives me this power to conquer my day.

What are some of your beauty essentials?

ZK: This might sound surprising and simple but it’s coconut oil! I use it everywhere. In my hair, brows, skin—everywhere. Essential oils also really help to ground and centre me, and finally, probably the Couture Brow Slim.

What’s the best beauty trick that you’ve learnt?

ZK: It may not be the most groundbreaking ‘trick’, but I would say its to use lipstick as blush. I travel so much and sometimes forget to pack certain products or I’m just on-the-go, so lipstick as blush has definitely saved me on a number of occasions. Also, I’m a big fan of a monochromatic look, so doing this achieves that pretty effortlessly.

With various holidays like the Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day coming up, we asked the starlet what product she would gift from the illustrious YSL Beauty collection—suggesting the Black Opium fragrance. “The Black Opium has a special energy to it. I understand that fragrances are very personal but there is just something special about the Black Opium that makes it great for the holidays”.
