TV host by day, and fledgling designer by night, 27-year-old Shalma Ainaa proves that there really ain’t no mountain high enough. Gliding around the centre of The Ritz-Carlton’s graphic rotunda in a striped Afiq M suit, Shalma is, of course, at ease before the camera, having worked the lens for Astro Ria before shifting her gaze to fashion. “It was a natural transition for me to begin my own clothing line, though it did have its fair share of challenges,” says the designer, whose label Shals blurs the line between traditional silhouettes and contemporary craftsmanship. “Wearing two different hats in a day means having to juggle various tasks simultaneously, and it’s something that comes naturally instilled within me.”
